Here’s the Twist
Top 3 Narrative Techniques to Make your Sales Copy Sizzle.
Tapping into narrative techniques to elevate your sales copy is not a new idea.
But it is an excellent one.
There are six key things that you should consider if you want to produce creative copy with a distinctive voice and a compelling thread (that leads your customers all the way through to purchase).
In this blog, we’ll cover the first three.
#1 Structure
A good plot has a clear structure.
It may not be the predictable or logical structure that the reader expects, but even when it’s defying our expectations, it’s still conforming to the structure that the writer planned.
Take Action: Make a plan for your copy. Where will you begin? What happens next? How does it get resolved? (clue: it’s resolved by your product or service).
#2 Clear characters
There’s really only one character that you need to worry about when it comes to creating highly engaging copy: the customer reading it.
Never forget, you are writing for your customer - not for you and not for the other industry experts in your field. Just that one VIP that you need on-side.
Write directly to their problems, their concerns, their second thoughts, their doubts, their niggles and their woes.
Take Action: Re-read anything you’ve already written and ask yourself who really feels like the centre of this universe - is it you and your brand or is it the customer?
#3 Setting
Setting can sometimes be the most powerful element of a piece of writing.
In your opening lines, before you’re yet to establish character, purpose, direction or cause, you’ve can always completely nail the setting.
Picture the scene that your main character (your customer) has found themselves in and which has brought them to you. And describe it in exquisite detail. Show them you understand entirely where they are at, where they’ve come from, what they’re thinking and what they’re doing. And then show them how you can help.
Take Action: Put yourself in your customer’s shoes for a moment and consider the world around them. That is the setting for your great copy.
